Our Story

Betty Lou's Pantry began as a humble initiative in the home of Fern Mann in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania. Fern dedicated her time to feeding community members struggling to find work. As the need grew, she collaborated with the Southern Lehigh Area Churches (SLAC) board, leading to the establishment of the Southern Lehigh Area Churches Food Bank. Initially located at Pinebrook College, the pantry moved to St. James Lutheran Church in 1987 to accommodate more families in need. Managed by a committee from 13 local churches, the pantry serves between 25 and 50 families biweekly, distributing food on Saturday mornings and as needed. In 2009, the pantry was renamed Betty Lou's Pantry in honor of Betty Lou Clauser, who dedicated 26 years of service to the community.
