About the Deaf Action Center
Established in 1982, the Deaf Action Center of Northwest Louisiana was born from a community need for services dedicated to the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing individuals. Following a visit from the National Theatre of the Deaf, local advocates, including Sandi and Jeffrey Kallenberg, recognized the lack of resources available for this population. With the support of Betty and Leonard Phillips and their family, the Center was founded to provide essential services and advocacy.
From humble beginnings in a borrowed office, the Deaf Action Center has grown into a 4,550 square foot facility designed specifically for the communication needs of the Deaf community. With a dedicated team of eight full-time staff members, along with part-time and volunteer support, the Center is committed to promoting independence and eliminating barriers for those affected by hearing loss.
