Our Story

The Berrien County Historical Association was founded in 1967 with a mission to save the historic 1839 Courthouse, the oldest county courthouse in Michigan. After nine years of dedicated restoration efforts involving local residents and experts, the courthouse was transformed and opened as a museum in 1976. Since then, BCHA has expanded its stewardship to include additional historical sites and artifacts, ensuring the preservation of local history for future generations.

Impact

Through its efforts, BCHA has successfully restored the 1839 Courthouse and established a permanent museum, enriching the community with educational programs and preserving the rich history of Berrien County.
