Our Story

The Benign Essential Blepharospasm Research Foundation (BEBRF) was founded in 1981 by Mattie Lou Koster in Beaumont, Texas. Frustrated by the lack of knowledge and awareness surrounding blepharospasm, Mattie Lou gathered a group of individuals to address these challenges. Since then, BEBRF has been committed to advancing research and education about this condition.

Impact

Since its inception, BEBRF has awarded nearly $3 million in research grants, significantly contributing to the understanding and treatment of blepharospasm. One notable achievement includes the approval of botulinum toxin as an effective treatment for patients.
