Our Story

In 2008, Tanya Jisa was deeply moved by the rising rates of recidivism among women leaving prison in North Carolina. Through her social work and connections with formerly incarcerated women, she envisioned a social enterprise and residential program that would address these complex issues. In 2014, Felix Drennen generously donated 11 acres of farmland to Benevolence Farm, seeking a recipient that would utilize the land for sustainable agriculture and social service. This partnership blossomed, and after years of dedicated program development, Benevolence Farm welcomed its first resident on December 13, 2016. Since then, over 45 women have found a home here, fostering a supportive community and sustainable livelihoods.
