Belwin Conservancy
EIN: 41-0967891 · Afton, MN
Our Story
In the late 1960s, Charles Bell and Lucy Winton Bell acquired 200 acres of ecologically diverse land in Afton, Minnesota, to combat the loss of wild spaces and promote outdoor education. This vision led to the establishment of the Belwin Foundation in 1970, dedicated to outdoor science education for children. Over the years, this initiative has welcomed over half a million children to the Belwin Conservancy, fostering a love for nature and environmental stewardship.
Our Impact
Belwin Conservancy permanently protects nearly 1,600 acres in the Valley Creek Watershed, inspiring thousands to engage in conservation through partnerships, public access, and innovative programming. This work has resulted in thriving ecosystems, including tallgrass prairie and oak savanna, serving as a vital buffer for wildlife in a rapidly developing area.
