Behind the Book is dedicated to increasing students’ desire to read and write, significantly impacting their reading competence and life trajectory. Customized school programs focus on diverse books and authors, allowing students to choose themes and projects, enhancing their autonomy and motivation.
Since 2003, Behind the Book has transformed 1,100 classrooms, serving over 25,300 students in Title I public schools and distributing more than 122,500 new books in NYC. In the 2023-2024 school year, 27 schools partnered with Behind the Book, resulting in 685 workshops and 741 students becoming published authors and illustrators.
