Our Story
The Beaumont Heritage Society is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the historic collections of the John Jay French House Museum and the Chambers House Museum. Established in 1967 by concerned citizens, the Society arose from a need to protect Beaumont's rich history from destruction. With the support of a matching grant from the Beaumont Junior League, the Society acquired and restored the John Jay French House, a museum that showcases the life of a prosperous Texas pioneer family from 1845-1865. The museum features antique furnishings, clothing, and pioneer household utensils, alongside outbuildings like a blacksmith shop and smokehouse. In 1990, the Society expanded its mission by acquiring the David French House, which now serves as its offices. The Chambers House, restored and opened for tours in May 2007, further enriches the community's historical narrative.
