Bean's Cafe

Our Story

Bean’s Cafe began with a simple vision: a warm place where those in need can find comfort, warmth, and a helping hand. Founded by Lynn Ballew in 1979, this Anchorage-based organization started as a day shelter for the hungry and homeless. Over the years, it has expanded its services, including The Children's Lunchbox program and the Streets to Success program, addressing both immediate hunger needs and the root causes of homelessness.

Impact

Bean’s Cafe has continuously served the Anchorage community for over 45 years, now capable of producing up to 10,000 meals each day and storing 40,000 pantry packs. The organization has effectively responded to community needs during crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, by providing shelter and food to those in need.
