Our Story

In 1958, Walter Detwiller, inspired by the life-saving services of a New Jersey ambulance, recognized the need for an ambulance service in Beacon, NY. With the support of local volunteers and the Beacon Fire Engine Company, the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps (BVAC) was established. The first ambulance, a refurbished 1948 Cadillac, marked the beginning of a dedicated service to the community. Over the years, BVAC has grown from humble beginnings to a fully equipped emergency service, with a modern fleet and a dedicated team of volunteers.

Impact

BVAC has responded to 3,396 emergency calls in the last year, making it one of the busiest volunteer ambulance services in Dutchess County.
