Our Story

In 1980, a dedicated group of Berkeley County parents established a preschool center in a local church basement to provide essential training and support for their children with disabilities. This initiative led to the opening of the Mary K Center for Special Children, which began with just 21 preschoolers. As societal attitudes evolved and inclusivity became a priority, the focus shifted to serving adults with disabilities. Today, Unity Bay, formerly known as Berkeley Citizens, proudly supports 250 individuals in the low country of South Carolina, ensuring that no one is left behind.
