Our Story
Founded in the mid-1960s, the Bayou Preservation Association emerged from a grassroots movement in Houston's Memorial Park area. Concerned residents, led by passionate activists like Terry Hershey, rallied to protect the natural beauty of Buffalo Bayou from destructive development. Their efforts not only halted harmful projects but also expanded the organization's mission to encompass all of Houston and Harris County's watersheds.
Over the decades, the Bayou Preservation Association has evolved into a vital force for watershed oversight and community engagement. Through education and collaboration, the organization has successfully orchestrated initiatives like the Harris County Flood Control Task Force and has played a pivotal role in preserving critical areas such as Armand Bayou.
