Our Story
In the early 1950s, a group of passionate artists gathered at Herb Sheller’s studio in Bartlesville, seeking a dedicated space to create and share their love for art. They transformed a dilapidated park shelter into a vibrant hub for creativity, officially forming the Bartlesville Artists Association on May 13, 1952. Under the leadership of Paul Perkins, the Association flourished at The Art Center in Johnstone Park, hosting classes, workshops, and the annual Spring Art Show and Sale, a cherished civic event for over 65 years.
In 1965, the organization evolved into the Bartlesville Art Association, welcoming all art enthusiasts to join in promoting visual arts. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, BAA has continued to thrive, even relocating to the Price Tower Arts Center in 2017 after the original Art Center was deemed unfit for use. Today, BAA remains an all-volunteer organization, offering daily art activities and partnering with local schools and civic organizations to enrich the community through arts education.
