Our Story
The Bangor Humane Society has been a beacon of hope for homeless pets since 1869, serving over 200 communities in northern and eastern Maine. Originally established as the Bangor Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the organization has evolved to focus on the welfare of companion animals, primarily cats and dogs. With a commitment to re-homing and rehabilitating animals, Bangor Humane Society adopted a no-euthanasia policy in 2008, achieving a remarkable live-release rate of nearly 99%.
