Baltimore Safe Haven
EIN: 83-3729738 · Baltimore, MD
Our Story
Founded in 2018, Baltimore Safe Haven emerged from the vision of Iya Dammons, who sought to create a supportive community for TLGBQ individuals, particularly black transgender women facing significant challenges. Drawing from her own experiences with poverty, violence, and sex work, Iya established a comprehensive wellness and outreach program aimed at providing essential resources. By the end of that year, Baltimore Safe Haven achieved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and launched operational activities, including a drop-in center and mobile outreach initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to transforming vision into action.
Impact
Over 40% of TLGBQIA youth are at risk of homelessness due to their gender identity, often facing violence in shelters. Baltimore Safe Haven is dedicated to eradicating these threats and fostering a safer environment for the most vulnerable members of the community.
