Our Story

The Baltimore Educational Scholarship Trust, known as B.E.S.T., was established on July 1, 1987, through the merger of two impactful organizations: The Baltimore Independent School Scholarship Fund and The Baltimore Project for Black Students. This merger was driven by a shared commitment to enhance educational opportunities for motivated, economically disadvantaged high school students, particularly those from minority backgrounds. B.E.S.T. aims to support and increase access to independent school education for ambitious African American students in the Baltimore area.

B.E.S.T. has significantly improved K-12 educational opportunities for African American children, enriching the diversity of its eighteen independent member schools and fostering talented leadership within the Baltimore community.
