Our Story
Ballethnic Dance Company Inc. was founded by Nena Gilreath and Waverly T. Lucas II, who shared a passion for dance and community impact. Established in 1990, it is the second Black-founded professional ballet company in the U.S. The organization is dedicated to providing opportunities for Black dancers and those from other ethnic backgrounds, creating original works that celebrate the African diasporic experience.

Through its performances and outreach, Ballethnic has significantly increased visibility for Black dancers in the ballet community, engaging diverse audiences and producing original works that resonate with cultural narratives.
