Our Story
Founded in 1984 by Zane Smith after the tragic loss of his son Jason to a cocaine overdose, Bakersfield Recovery Services has grown from a single facility into a prominent drug and alcohol treatment organization. By 1995, the State of California recognized BRS’s contributions, granting a license for specialized substance abuse treatment. This led to Kern County’s first 'alternative sentencing' program and, by 1999, BRS became California’s pioneering organization licensed for a prenatal residential treatment program. Today, with six facilities and over 100 dedicated staff members, BRS stands as a beacon of hope and transformation for many.
