Our Story

For over 30 years, the Bainbridge-Ometepe Sister Islands Association has fostered a unique partnership between Bainbridge Island and Ometepe, Nicaragua. This journey began in 1986 when Kim Esterberg sought a sister island and discovered the profound need for respect and collaboration. Together, communities have constructed schools, developed water systems, and embraced each other's cultures, creating a lasting bond of mutual respect.
