Founded in 1994 by Louise Mills and Michele McCrackin, Island Theatre began as an independent production of a Broadway comedy. The success of this initial run led to the unanimous decision by the cast and crew to establish a new theatre company. Achieving 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 1995, Island Theatre has since produced nearly 200 plays, all while operating with an all-volunteer board and minimal budget.
Island Theatre has successfully engaged the community through numerous productions and events, providing free access to the arts. Initiatives like the Ten-Minute Play Festival highlight local playwrights and foster creativity.
