Our Story

The Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial Association (BIJAEMA) was founded to honor the memory of Japanese Americans forcibly removed from Bainbridge Island during World War II. This Memorial stands as a powerful reminder of the events of March 30, 1942, and embodies the mission of 'Nidoto Nai Yoni'—Let It Not Happen Again.

Impact

BIJAEMA has established a National Historic Site that educates the public about the injustices faced by Japanese Americans during World War II. The Memorial serves as a place of reflection and learning, promoting awareness of civil rights issues and the importance of community healing.
