Backpack Brigade

Our Story

Founded in 2014, Backpack Brigade emerged from the realization that many children in Seattle face hunger every weekend. Volunteers discovered that numerous displaced students depend on school meals, leaving them without food during weekends and breaks. Every Thursday during the school year, dedicated volunteers pack bags filled with nutritious, easy-to-eat food and deliver them to K-12 schools in the area. This initiative, powered by volunteers and supported by generous donations and sponsors, aims to provide better food to more of Seattle’s hungry children each weekend.

Impact

Backpack Brigade has delivered over 1.7 million meals each school year to more than 4,500 children across 100 schools in King County.
