Our Story
Welcome to BEAT AIDS (Black Efforts Against the Threat of AIDS), an organization founded in 1987 by Mel Johnson, dedicated to combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic. With a vision to empower individuals and communities, BEAT AIDS has evolved into a beacon of hope, compassion, and support for those affected by this crisis.
At BEAT AIDS, the mission is clear: to meet people where they are, both literally and figuratively. The dedicated team of professionals and volunteers works tirelessly to reach individuals from all walks of life, ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Services include education and resources provided in recovery centers, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, and marginalized communities.
What sets BEAT AIDS apart is its holistic approach to addressing the complex challenges posed by HIV/AIDS. Beyond essential services like testing, counseling, and linkage to care, the organization prioritizes initiatives that tackle the underlying social determinants of health. This includes advocating for policy changes to combat stigma and discrimination, as well as promoting access to housing, healthcare, and harm reduction services.
Community engagement is at the heart of BEAT AIDS’ work. Through outreach events, educational workshops, and grassroots advocacy campaigns, the organization fosters a sense of belonging, understanding, and solidarity among those affected by HIV/AIDS. BEAT AIDS is not just an organization; it is a family committed to making a difference, one life at a time.
