AWOKE

Our Story

The GR818ERS was founded in 2010 by passionate youth in the San Fernando Valley, aiming to improve racial and social tensions in their community. This grassroots collective emerged from the need to combat disenfranchisement and stereotypes in Pacoima, a neighborhood facing significant challenges. In 2017, AWOKE was established to amplify their impact, envisioning a world rooted in collaboration and equity. The UNITE Cultural Center, opened in 2019, serves as a vibrant hub for creative transformation and civic engagement.

Impact

AWOKE empowers youth and young adults through community development projects, arts and athletics programming, and cultural events, fostering local leadership and social change.
