Our Story

Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) was founded in Houston in response to the urgent need for resources for battered women. Established by the National Council of Jewish Women—Greater Houston Section, AVDA began as a legal advocacy project with an all-volunteer staff. Over the years, it has expanded its services to include a Battering Intervention and Prevention Program, legal representation, counseling, and educational outreach, advocating for the safety and self-determination of victims across multiple Texas counties.

Impact

AVDA has provided advocacy, safety planning, and legal representation for over 100,000 survivors of domestic abuse in Texas. The organization has become a leader in the community, instrumental in forming legal institutions focused on domestic violence survivors and ensuring access to vital resources.
