Our Story
Founded in 1978 by a dedicated group of local citizens, Avalon Center for Women and Children began as the Williamsburg Task Force on Battered Women. Over the years, the organization has evolved, changing its name in 2016 to better reflect its expanded mission. Today, Avalon Center provides essential services including emergency shelter, transitional housing, and support for approximately 1,500 individuals each year in the greater Williamsburg and Middle Peninsula communities.

Avalon Center is committed to ending domestic and sexual violence by breaking the cycle of abuse through prevention, education, and support services. Each year, the center serves over 1,500 individuals, providing them with the resources they need to rebuild their lives.
