Our Story

The Austin Swing Syndicate was founded in 1999 to create a dedicated space for swing dancers in Austin. As the national swing craze began to fade, local dancers rallied together to establish a consistent venue for their passion. Founders Burk McRae and Amanda Matthews ignited excitement within the community, leading to the first dance event in June 1999. The success of these Thursday night dances inspired the creation of the Austin Lindy Exchange in November 2000, a week-long celebration of swing dance that continues to thrive.
