Our Story
Aunt Lute Books was founded in 1982 by Barb Wieser and Joan Pinkvoss in Iowa City, driven by the need to amplify the voices of lesbians, particularly women of color. In 1990, Aunt Lute became a nonprofit under the Aunt Lute Foundation, dedicated to creating a culturally diverse collective of staff and board members. This mission has fostered the careers of countless women from various backgrounds.
