Free Heart Screenings
Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death
Raising Awareness About Heart Health

Our Story

In October 2008, tragedy struck when 18-year-old August Koontz, a vibrant athlete from San Antonio, passed away unexpectedly due to sudden cardiac arrest caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). In response to this heartbreaking loss, his parents, Doré and Bart Koontz, established AugustHeart in May 2011. The organization is dedicated to offering free heart screenings to local teenagers, aiming to prevent similar tragedies.

Impact

Since its inception, AugustHeart has successfully screened thousands of teenagers, identifying critical heart abnormalities that could lead to sudden cardiac death. This initiative not only saves lives but also raises awareness about heart health among youth.

Why Donate?

Your donations to AugustHeart directly support the provision of free heart screenings for teenagers. These screenings are vital for identifying potentially life-threatening heart conditions, ensuring that every student has access to this essential health service, regardless of their financial situation.
