About Attleboro Enterprises Development Corporation

Founded in the mid-1960s, Attleboro Enterprises Development Corporation, known as AEI, began as a sheltered workshop in downtown Attleboro. Initially referred to as "The Workshop," it provided employment opportunities for men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD). Over the decades, AEI has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, transitioning from subcontract work to supported employment and job placement programs.

Our Journey and Impact

In the 1980s, AEI expanded its services by opening residential homes with 24-hour staffing support, ensuring individuals had a safe and nurturing environment. The 1990s marked a significant milestone with the introduction of the first Day Habilitation program funded through MassHealth, offering essential medical, clinical, and developmental services tailored to individual challenges.

AEI played a pivotal role in the closure of the Dever Developmental Center, facilitating the transition of residents into fully accessible community homes. Today, AEI serves over 600 individuals annually, including those on the autism spectrum and high school students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Recognized by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the Massachusetts DDS Office of Quality Enhancement (OQE), AEI continues to uphold the highest standards in providing essential services.
