Our Story

The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society (AMSEAS) is a dedicated organization of biologists and volunteers committed to marine conservation through action. Founded by Robert A. DiGiovanni, Jr., a nationally recognized expert in marine mammal and sea turtle strandings, AMSEAS has established a research network from Virginia to Maine. The focus is on the study and protection of marine mammals and sea turtles in the New York Bight, Long Island Sound, and northwest Atlantic Ocean.

Our Impact

AMSEAS has successfully responded to over 4,600 marine mammal and sea turtle strandings, conducted health assessments, and provided critical care to injured animals. The organization has developed a Specially Trained Animal Response Team (START) to address out-of-habitat situations and has conducted extensive research to understand the impacts of climate change and human activity on marine ecosystems.
