About the PAD Initiative

The PAD Initiative emerged from the voices of Atlantans affected by policing and incarceration, advocating for a new approach to community safety. Founded by queer and trans people of color, the initiative has evolved since 2013, leading to the launch of diversion services in 2017.

Impact on the Community

Since its inception, PAD has successfully diverted individuals from arrest, providing essential services such as harm reduction-based case management, housing, and food assistance. In 2019 alone, PAD diverted 150 individuals, earning the Civic Impact Award for Government Innovation.
