Our Story
In 1998, the LGBTQ+ community of Athens, Georgia, came together for a potluck picnic at Lake Herrick, hosted by GLOBES, an LGBTQ faculty and staff group at the University of Georgia. This gathering blossomed into the Athens Pride Committee, a volunteer-driven organization. By 2011, the vision expanded into a larger festival, culminating in the first Athens Pride week and festival at Lay Park. Achieving 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 2013 marked a significant milestone. Now, in its 24th year, Athens Pride celebrates its 12th annual festival, fostering unity and pride among LGBTQ+ individuals and allies.
