Our Story

The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) was founded in 1965 in Chicago by visionary musicians dedicated to fostering a creative community. The AACM aims to support individual artists while promoting collaboration and collective responsibility. Through workshops, rehearsals, and performances, members share their knowledge and techniques, creating a vibrant environment for artistic growth. The AACM also emphasizes community engagement, with members actively involved in teaching and outreach programs that make music accessible to all.

Our Impact

The AACM provides free training programs for disadvantaged youth and employment opportunities for musicians through performances and interdisciplinary projects. The Great Black Music Ensemble and smaller groups inspire audiences locally and globally.
