About the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement

Founded in October 1997 by Dr. Wallace Sife after the loss of his beloved miniature dachshund, Edel Meister, the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement (APLB) was created to address the unique grief experienced by pet owners. Recognizing a gap in support for those mourning their pets, Dr. Sife developed a model for understanding pet loss grief, leading to the establishment of APLB as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1999.

Impact of APLB

APLB offers free online support through facilitated chats with trained pet loss specialists, helping individuals navigate their grief. The organization has become a cornerstone in the field of pet loss support, providing essential resources and training for professionals.
