Our Story

Founded by Guillermo Antonio Vidaud, an architect who fled Cuba in 1960, the Association for Independent Living (AFIL) was established in 1979 to provide essential training for developmentally disabled youth. Partnering with the Catholic Order of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, AFIL was built on the belief that every adult deserves the opportunity to live life to its fullest potential.

Impact

AFIL creates a safe and nurturing environment for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, empowering them to achieve independence through life skills, education, and vocational guidance.
