Our Story

Established in July 2019, the Asian and Pacific Islander Community Coalition of Oregon (APICCO) emerged from a gathering of API leaders convened by Civic Leadership USA. This coalition aims to unite various API ethnic communities to promote shared goals and foster leadership. In 2021, APICCO achieved 501(c)(3) status and launched a paid internship program, successfully placing five API students in legislative offices across Oregon. The interns engage in a comprehensive program that includes orientation, workshops, and hands-on assignments, culminating in participation in the Civic Leadership Academy’s Student Project Consulting Session and the National Showcase Award Ceremony.

Impact

APICCO has made significant strides, including a project with Centro Cultural de Washington County for TriMet's Annual Service Change. During the 2023 Legislative Session, three students were placed as interns with state legislators, marking a milestone with the inclusion of APICCO’s first non-API intern.
