Our Story
Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) was founded in 1974 in Manhattan’s Chinatown by community activists who protested against discrimination in employment during the construction of Confucius Plaza. This grassroots movement has evolved into a comprehensive community development organization dedicated to advancing racial, social, and economic justice for Asian Americans and other marginalized communities.
Impact
Over the decades, AAFE has transitioned from advocacy to community building, addressing affordable housing crises and supporting immigrant small businesses through financial assistance and training. AAFE has created 1,200 affordable homes, dispensed 2,500 small business loans, and served 35,000 community members annually.
