Our Story

Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center was founded in 1973 by David Nadel, a passionate human rights activist and folk dancer. In response to the San Francisco Bay Area’s vibrant interest in international folk dance, Ashkenaz was created as a welcoming space for diverse audiences to gather and celebrate the rhythms of the world. Following Nadel's untimely passing in 1996, the community united to form a nonprofit organization, ensuring that his vision of multicultural music and dance continues to thrive.

Impact

Ashkenaz builds community through multicultural, participatory music and dance, providing a safe space for diverse audiences to come together and celebrate their cultural heritage.
