Our Story

Founded in 2011 by Greg Morris, a Certified Physician Assistant, Ascending to Health Respite Care Inc. emerged from a collaboration with local hospitals and nonprofits to address a critical gap in healthcare for the chronically homeless. The pilot program aimed to improve recovery outcomes post-hospital discharge, ultimately leading to the establishment of a safe haven for individuals recuperating from illness or surgery.

Impact on the Community

Since receiving 501(c)(3) status in 2012, ATHRC has provided essential recuperative and respite services to nearly 700 individuals in the Pikes Peak region. With a remarkable 90% of clients connected to primary care providers during their stay, the program has significantly reduced emergency department visits by 52%. Furthermore, 70% of clients adhere to their prescriptions one year post-discharge, a stark contrast to the 20% adherence rate prior to receiving care. The program not only facilitates safe transitions back into the community but also ensures that 40% of clients secure permanent housing, assisted living, or nursing facilities, with none returning to the streets.
