Our Story
Arts New York State, known as ArtsNYS, is a coalition of arts service providers dedicated to bridging the gap in arts advocacy across New York. Operating on a limited budget and without staff, the coalition has successfully organized two statewide convenings each year and has worked tirelessly to secure increased funding for the New York State Council on the Arts. In 2017, after years of planning, ArtsNYS transitioned into a fully operational nonprofit corporation, aiming to take a leadership role in advancing the nonprofit arts sector. This transformation allows ArtsNYS to provide essential services that address the unmet needs of the arts community.
Impact of the Arts
The arts and cultural sector significantly contributes to New York's economy, accounting for over $151 billion and supporting more than 461,000 jobs. Attendees at nonprofit arts events spend an average of $31.47 per person, enhancing local economies. Furthermore, 67% of Americans believe that the arts unify communities, while 62% feel that the arts help them understand diverse cultures better.
