Our Story

Founded in 2008 by McKendree Key, Artshack Brooklyn began as a small artist-run program offering art classes in a backyard. By 2016, it evolved into a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, focusing on ceramics and establishing a home on Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn. In 2022, the Keepsake Gallery was launched, showcasing the creative works of children, community members, and resident artists.

Impact

In the past year, Artshack has made significant strides in making ceramic arts accessible to Brooklyn residents. Over 900 local public school students benefited from fully subsidized ceramics classes, while 126 scholarships were awarded to Black and Brown adult residents. Additionally, 10 free Community Clay Days reached nearly 500 residents, and specialized classes were offered for Blind and Visually Impaired Seniors.

Why Donate?

Your donations to Artshack Brooklyn directly support the mission of making ceramic arts accessible to all, especially marginalized communities. Contributions fund scholarships, free community days, and subsidized classes for low-income individuals, ensuring everyone can experience the healing powers of clay.
