Our Story

In the early 1990s, California faced drastic cuts to public education funding, with arts education being the first casualty. In 1996, four members of the Oakland Arts Council founded the Oakland Fund for the Arts to restore arts education in under-resourced schools. Renamed Arts for Oakland Kids in 2016, the organization has funded over 150 hands-on arts programs in more than 80 schools, impacting over 29,000 children.

Impact

Since its inception, Arts for Oakland Kids has significantly improved access to arts education, reaching over 29,000 kids in 96 public schools and awarding over $966,000 to artists and organizations.
