Transforming Lives Through Second Chances

Arkansas Paws in Prison is dedicated to rehabilitating inmates while giving shelter dogs a second chance at life. Selected inmates train rescue dogs, teaching them essential obedience skills and socialization, making them more adoptable. This innovative program, launched on December 8, 2011, has expanded to seven facilities across Arkansas, partnering with local animal shelters and rescue groups.

Creating a Positive Impact

The program benefits everyone involved. It reduces the number of dogs euthanized each year in Arkansas, equips inmates with valuable skills for successful reentry into society, and enhances public safety. Since its inception, the Department of Corrections has noted improved interactions between inmates and staff, contributing to a safer environment.
