Support For Caregivers

Our Story

The ARK of South Carolina began in 1996 as a community outreach initiative of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Summerville. Initially serving just 13 families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, The ARK has grown significantly over the years. With the launch of a satellite respite day program in rural St. George, the organization expanded its reach to families in Dorchester, Colleton, and Orangeburg counties. In 2004, grant funding allowed for the purchase of a bus, enabling more participants to access respite programs. Today, The ARK operates a five-day-a-week program in Summerville and a one-day-a-week program in Harleyville, serving hundreds of families and providing vital information and referrals.

Impact

The ARK of South Carolina offers hope and relief to families living with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD) through essential support services such as respite care, support groups, education, caregiver consultations, and resource referrals.
