Our Story
The Arc of Shelby County was founded in 1974 by a dedicated group of parents advocating for their children with intellectual disabilities. Initially serving as a support network, the organization has evolved significantly over the years. In 1988, it launched an early intervention program for children aged birth to five with developmental delays. By 1999, The Arc expanded its services to include supported employment programs for adults with developmental disabilities. Today, The Arc of Shelby County impacts over 1,500 individuals and families each year, providing essential tools and resources to foster a thriving community.
