Apple Ridge Farm

Our Story
Since 1978, Apple Ridge Farm has been a beacon of hope for over 80,000 youth, particularly those from Roanoke’s inner-city neighborhoods and public housing projects. Founded by visionary educator Peter Allen Lewis, the farm was established to provide underserved children with transformative educational experiences in a rural setting. The Lewis Family's commitment to this mission led to the purchase of a 96-acre farm, which has since expanded to include magical wooded areas and country spaces that inspire both urban youth and adults alike.
Impact
This past year marked a significant milestone as more students than ever attended our Academic Summer Camp. Over 300 children participated in our Legacy and Partner Camper programs, engaging in enriching academic activities that seamlessly blended learning with fun. Our focus on Literacy, Environmental Education, and Math, combined with mindfulness and character-building, has fostered personal and academic growth among our campers—all at no cost to them or their families.
