Our Story

The Appalachian Studies Association was established in 1977 by dedicated scholars, teachers, and activists committed to the Appalachian region. Headquartered at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, the ASA fosters a vibrant community focused on research and education.

Impact

Each year, the ASA hosts the annual Appalachian Studies Conference, attracting 600-700 participants who engage in meaningful dialogue and action to uplift the Appalachian community.
