Our Story

Founded in 1983 by Matilda Kunin, Young Performers Theatre (YPT) honors the memory of her son Anthony by providing children with the opportunity to engage in the performing arts. YPT has become a cornerstone of the San Francisco community, offering free participation in fully staged productions, enrichment curricula for schools, and introductory acting classes for children as young as three. The Theatre in Education (TIE) program was developed to reach underserved communities, ensuring that every child has access to the transformative power of theatre.

Young Performers Theatre empowers children in the Bay Area to express themselves through storytelling and performance, fostering essential life skills such as self-confidence, empathy, and teamwork.
