About the Animal Defense League

The Animal Defense League of Texas, established in 1934, has a rich history rooted in compassion and care for animals. Originally part of the Child Protective & Humane Society, ADL has evolved into San Antonio’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter. Located on a sprawling 12-acre campus in northeast San Antonio, the organization is dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals and finding loving homes for thousands of dogs and cats each year.

Impacting Lives

In 2023 alone, ADL saved 6,028 lives, fostered 1,680 pets, and provided 5,198 spay/neuter services, making a significant difference in the community.
